The Duke of Edinburgh award enables a young person to develop their mind, body and soul in a non-competitive environment. The award has the ability to elevate people’s self-confidence, skills and aspirations.
In school we currently have 100 pupils involved across all three levels (bronze, Silver and Gold). We are one of the few schools in the area who offer all three levels and we believe it provides participants with essential life skills. Through completing the various sections that make up the award participants develop:
Respect and understanding of people from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life.
A sense of responsibility
New talents and abilities
An understanding of strengths and weakness
Our staff are highly trained and provide each young person the support they need to achieve their full potential.
Gold expedition June 2015
This year saw another two groups from Dominican College Portstewart complete their Gold expedition in the Wicklow Hills. The participants were lucky with the weather for their 4 day expedition with some blue skies and warm nights. This allowed the two groups to take in the spectacular scenery and take in everything that this amazing area had to offer.
