Well done to our Junior Swimmers

29-Jan-2019

On Saturday 26th January, Swimmers from Dominican College along with Mr Coils travelled to Larne Leisure Centre to compete in the Ulster Schools Junior Cup Gala. This event is incredibly competitive with swimmers from all Secondary & Grammar Schools in Northern Ireland taking part.

In Year 8, Jessica Vance competed well against a very strong group of swimmers. She recorded very impressive times in both the 100M Backstroke & 100M Freestyle events. As one of the youngest swimmers in her category, Jessica is likely to go far in this competition in the coming years. Well done, Jessica.

In Year 9, Kirsten Tea competed in the 100M Breaststroke and 100M Freestyle events. Kirsten swan exceptionally well in the Freestyle race, setting a personal best time of 1.32.58. Well done, Kirsten.

Finally, Charlie Eatwell, also in Year 9, had a very successful day in Larne. Charlie swam in the 100M Butterfly & 100M Freestyle events and proved that he is most definitely one of the up and coming male swimmers in the province.

Charlie whilst competing against a number of older swimmers managed to finish 7th overall in the 100M Butterfly. In doing so, Charlie set a very impressive 5 second personal best time of 1.13.47. Within his age group, Charlie finished 3rd overall.

Charlie’s success continued in the 100M Freestyle where again competing against older swimmers he managed to make the final of this event. Finishing in 6th place, Charlie set another personal best time of 1.03.77. Within his age group, Charlie once again finished 3rd overall.

This puts Charlie in a very strong position going into next year as he will be the oldest in his category when he competes in this event next year. Very well done, Charlie.

This was the first time that DCP has been represented at this event and all swimmers performed exceptionally well, leaving a very positive impression with officials within the Ulster School’s Swimming Association.

Many thanks for Mr Coils for accompanying pupils and also to Mr Tom Eatwell for helping with timekeeping on the day.
